CELEBRATE CREEK WEEK!
September 20-26, 2025
In the United States, the their week in September is National Pollution Prevention Week. In California, many areas, including the Russian River watershed, observe Creek Week during the fourth week of September.
During Creek Week, various organizations in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties will host clean-up events for creeks, rivers, and oceans. The Russian River watershed has over 150 creeks that are vital for water supply, wildlife, flood management, and recreation. However, accumulated trash and debris threaten water quality, wildlife, and can even impact recreation and flood capacity.
Creek Week provides an excellent chance to engage with your community and participate in environmental efforts to protect our local creeks.

COASTWALK’S COASTAL CLEANUP
Sign-Up: Registration is open! To learn more and to register please visit California Coastal Cleanup Day with Coastwalk
Details: Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 9 a.m. – noon
It’s California’s LARGEST annual volunteer event – an opportunity for people across the state to clean our beaches, creeks, rivers, lakes, and shorelines of all kinds, to help restore our environment. YOU get to be a citizen scientist. After cleaning up trash from the site, either you or a Site Captain will organize it and then upload the data into the Clean Swell app. Trash data collected helps inform state policy. For example, in 2019, Senate Bill 8 was signed into law, effectively banning smoking in all state parks and beaches. This is largely due to the data of cigarette butt collection from the annual Coastal Cleanup Day. You are encouraged to bring your own clean up supplies and refillable water bottles. Cleanup supplies will be available at the event, along with water to refill your bottles and snacks. Have any questions? Feel free to call (707) 829-6689 Ext. 1 or email lindsey@coastwalk.org
